The Finke Estate preserves, researches, and opens Dieter Finke's archive. It connects works, documents, and reconstruction notes so the practice can be read as a living field.
Finke stretched semitransparent film over a rough wooden skeleton and partially painted it black, building a room the viewer had to move through rather than look at — light, paint, and the visitor's own position in the space shifting together as they moved. Barbara Steiner reads this as the moment his practice turned from relational objects to a fully walk-in spatial proposition.
